Join host Angie Hall as she provides information about the upcoming programs and events taking place this winter in Buncombe County. Come Out & Play provides opportunities for the entire family to get out and enjoy sports and fun activities. Our big event this year is Festival of Lights at Lake Julian Park. This event starts off with a 'Walking in a Winter Wonderland' December 5 & 6, 2012. Then continues with a drive thru show beginning December 7 -- 23. A dodgeball league is taking place in January so players need to sign up fast. Angie reminds everyone that the Sand Hill Community Garden at the Sports Park needs volunteers this winter and recaps the Kids Fishing Tournament that was held in late September. Kids who are 15 and under competed for the 'biggest' fish, 'smallest' fish and 'most' fish caught tournament at Lake Julian Park. Special Olympics is gearing up for the winter sports like basketball, cheerleading and skiing. Then meet Collin Bugniazet with Town of Black Mountain Recreation and Parks. He shares events and programs taking place there. Kids can participate in 'Art in the Afternoon' afterschool program, karate, and gymnastics all held at the Carver Community Center. Seniors can enjoy the many programs at the Lakeview Senior Center. Buncombe County Parks, Greenways and Recreation and Black Mountain Recreation and Parks are located in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina.

it's
time
for
the
festival
lights
display
show
at
Lake
Julian.
It's
become
a
popular
tradition
with
the
families
of
buncombe
county
and
we
plan
for
it
to
be
a
spectacular
show
this
year,
so
bundle
up
and
put
on
your
walking
shoes.
The
12th
annual
festival
of
lights
will
feature
two
nights
of
walking
in
a
winter
wonderland
on
wednesday
december
fifth
and
thursday
december
six,
the
festival
lights
is
reserved
for
the
winter
wonderland
walkers.
Only
for
two
hours
each
night
families
can
enjoy
the
festival
of
lights,
close-up
and
personal.

park
opens
at
six
pm
and
walkers
are
welcome
to
stroll,
through
the
display,
at
their
leisure,
until
8pm
special
olympics
will
have
food
tables
set
up
by
the
lake
and
local
church.
Choirs
will
sing.
Carols
buncombe,
county
parks,
greenways
and
Recreation.
Services
recommends
that
Walker's
wear
comfortable
shoes
dress
warmly
and
come
prepared
to
walk
over
a
half
a
mile
on
a
paved
walkway.
The
walkway
is
of
moderate
difficulty
with
some
inclines.
Parents
with
young
children
can
bring
wagons
or
strollers,
but
no
pets.

gardeners.

chores

harvesting

crops

collards
and
turnip
greens.

satisfaction

is
donated
to

an
array

and

paddle,
boat,
canoe

boat

on
the

fishing
boat,
with

board
of
commissioners

for

The
effort
to
produce
the
buckland
county,
greenways
and
trills
master
plan
involved
the
input
of
more

2,600
citizens

organizations
throughout
the
county.
Volunteers
of
the
county's
greenways
commission
put
hundreds
of
hours
toward
the
effort
simultaneously.
The
bochum
county
greenways
trail
commission
began
a
public
outreach
and
education
campaign
called
connect.

This
campaign
is
raising
awareness
of
the
economic,
health,
environmental,
cultural
and
safety
benefits
of
green
ways.

their

applauded

their
foresight
in
starting
a
greenway
plan
over
four
years
ago.
They
go
on
to
say

appreciate
plans
such
as
yours
that
promote
sensible
transportation
and
bike
advocacy
throughout
the
community.

people

would

problem

owners

venues

lose
business
over
this

still
want
to
be
entertained
and
still
enjoy
going

are

this
business
that
don't
smoke

very
positive
about.

admitted

smoke
cigarettes,

still
didn't

sitting
