I
ask
you
to
just
use
our
community
also
as
men
and
women
serve
and
that
you'll
just
be
with
them
and
give
them
the
patience.
I
ask
you
to
also
be
with
chief
soon
to
be
chief
pence
and
that
you'll
just
guide
them
and
leave.
A
A
land
acknowledgement
is
a
formal
statement
that
recognizes
recognizes
and
respects
indigenous
peoples.
Traditional
stewards
of
this
land,
the
enduring
relationship
that
exists
between
indigenous
peoples
and
their
traditional
americans
go
ahead
and
read
that,
to
the
best
of
my
knowledge,
the
first
peoples
of
central
oregon
are
the
malala.
A
Well,
welcome
I'm
eric
king
ben
city
manager.
I
have
the
pleasure
of
introducing
the
10th
police
chief
for
the
city
of
bend
like
france
before
I
do
that.
I
want
to
just
recognize
a
few
folks.
Our
mayor
sally
russell,
your
professor,
bruce
abernathy,
chief,
jim
porter,
it's
so
nice
to
see
you.
I
want
to
recognize
all
the
men
and
women
of
the
police
department
and
members
of
our
city
staff
as
well,
and
my
friends
and
his
family.
A
We
I
mean
we,
as
this
entire
department
set
off
on
a
journey
six
months
ago,
to
find
ben's
next
chief
through
many
listening
sessions.
You
all
told
me
what
was
most
important.
A
A
A
I
want
to
thank
many
of
you
that
participated
in
the
process,
especially
all
told
I
received
feedback
from
over
40
individuals
that
participated
on
interview
panels
tours
attended
the
virtual
town
hall
or
contacted
me.
I
was
so
impressed
with
how
you
embodied
the
department
values.
I
just
mentioned
you
approach
the
process
with
putting
the
needs
of
the
whole
department.
A
First
care,
so
deeply
about
our
collective
success.
For
that
I
am
truly
free.
I
also
want
to
thank
the
internal
candidates.
Your
professionalism
throughout
the
process
echoed
the
same
qualities.
They
were
all
consistent
in
putting
the
department's
needs.
First,
it
was
a
difficult
process,
a
very
challenging
time.
Everything
from
the
awkwardness
of
technology
for
interviews
calls
the
dynamic
of
internal
competition
as
chief
porter
continuously
touted.
It's
the
excellent
culture
that
you
all
create
that
makes
this
department,
so
special
internal
candidates
demonstrated
that
culture
in
spain.
A
A
A
Some
of
the
memorable
quotes
from
those
that
have
worked
with
mike
from
his
department,
as
well
as
from
community
members
include
mike,
is
the
perfect
blend
of
data
and
relationships.
I
trust
with
high
profile
community
groups
primary
strength.
Is
his
accessibility
always
found
time
to
make
connection
with
officers
mike's
mike
likes
to
do
his
homework
when
he
gets
to
bed,
he
will
make
no
immediate
efforts
to
change
anything.
A
A
A
A
We
are
entering
into
a
challenging
time
for
policing
nationally
regionally,
because
michael
knows
what's
happening
and
locally
these
times
are
impacting
the
good
people
that
work
for
the
venues.
This
job
just
got
a
lot
harder.
I
recognize
that
I
support
you
and
I'm
here
to
make
sure
you
continue
building
off
of
the
great
work
then
police
are
so
well-known
and
that
you
maintain.
A
A
A
I
have
also
also
asked
that
you
welcome
chief
france
as
you've
welcomed,
so
many
of
our
hires
from
outside
of
this
area,
we
are
stronger
when
we
have
open
minds,
continue
to
learn
work
as
a
team.
I
know
you
are
all
capable
of
greatness
and
continue
to
be
an
exemplary
department
that
is
leading
the
way
for
others.
A
A
B
A
C
My
son
andrew
and
his
girlfriend
gracie,
my
mom
anita,
my
sister-in-law,
angie
and
then
friends,
vicky
rusty
jackson
and
whitney
right
a
little
bit
very
small,
all
right,
I'm
gonna
step
aside
and
let
you
say
a
few
words.
C
Thank
you
thank
you
and
thank
you
for
being
here
and
very
socially
distanced
national
on
the
back
wall.
C
I'm
proud
to
accept
the
honor
of
being
the
next
chief
of
police.
I
do
this
with
the
understanding
the
significance
and
responsibility
of
this
position
in
the
community,
knowing
that
it
is
our
job
to
ensure
that
everyone
in
the
community,
including
your
loved
ones,
friends,
family,
are
kept
safe.
That
then
can
thrive
and
grow
for
115
years
the
women
and
men
of
the
bend
police
department
have
served.
You
we've
done
this
with
honor
and
with
love.
Loyalty.
C
C
I
will
also
serve
the
same
part
of
service
showing
my
honor
love
and
loyalty
for
my
new
community,
and
I
will
continue
to
nurture
and
grow
the
relationships
between
the
community
police
department
that
are
already
here
and
building,
although
stepping
into
a
police
chief
of
police
position,
would
seemingly
be
a
challenge
for
anyone
at
any
time
today.
It
feels
so
much
more
consequential
and
meaningful.
C
We've
been
struck
with
the
most
devastating
crisis
in
recent
history.
We
have
a
pandemic
and
a
sickening
kill
millions
of
people
some
here
in
our
very
own
community,
but
this
has
come
financial
and
budgetary
wreckage.
It
will
take
substantial
time
to
recover
from,
on
top
of
this
tragic
pandemic,
the
killing
of
george
floyd
at
the
hand
of
someone
who
would
take
a
note
to
protect
him
in
the
community
as
activated
emotions,
fears
and
angers
and
frustrations
of
the
entire
country.
C
C
C
C
C
C
You
have
my
commitment
that
I
will
be
your
advocate
and
I
will
continue
to
share
our
stories.
Our
successes,
access,
our
successes
and
even
our
failures,
all
of
the
vision
of
being
the
best
being
the
best
police
department.
We
can
be
being
the
best
community
service
agency,
we
can
be
and
being
the
best
place,
to
work
and
being
the
best
people
that
we
can
be.
