Jakarta EE 10 Core Profile was the new profile in Jakarta EE 10. One of the reasons of creating this new profile was for MicroProfile to adopt Jakarta EE much easier. The new shining hot-in-the-press MicroProfile 6.0 has already fully embraced Jakarta EE 10 Core Profile. Apart from this, MicroProfile 6.0 also provided some major updates from MicroProfile Metrics, which enabled the adoption of Micrometer and MicroProfile Telemetry that consumed OpenTelemetry. Integration testing is always a difficult area. You need to make sure that all system dependencies are prepared, data is correctly initialised for each run and test runs do not interfere with each other. Even with tools like the Arquillian Framework, writing integration tests can be a complicated task and the act of maintaining large sets of tests can become a nightmare if there’s not enough knowledge of all dependencies involved.
With the Testcontainers project, convoluted and complicated integration tests can be a thing of the past. A test container allows you to create reliable integration tests covering a wide range of scenarios like using databases, microservices interactions and even GUI and user experience testing. One of the important factors for the success of this framework is the usage of Docker containers to create a reliable reproducible environment for each test, which separates the dependencies and the application code in a way that it is easy to maintain for developers.

Java has a long history of running on the server. It turns out, there’s quite a lot of foundational tech that made the newer frameworks possible. In this talk, we’ll take a look at different parts of the foundation that you may not even realize you’re using, for everything like handling REST requests, processing JSON, using Web Sockets, talking to a database, performing validation, and more. We’ll also look at how these standards evolve within the Eclipse Jakarta EE, and what’s in store for the future.

Everyone has an idea for a killer app, but everyone has to start somewhere. It’s always a good idea to start with all the scaffolding needed for the project. We didn’t have a good starter application until now that could specify our requirements, such as runtime, dependency, and so on, and build a project structure in a minute. Many developers crafted their own version of the maven archetype, but now we have an official one from the Eclipse Foundation that is simple to download and use in a matter of minutes.

Through the use of technologies like CRIU support in Eclipse OpenJ9 and Liberty’s InstantOn, we’ve taken one giant leap forwards for innovation for Java and Jakarta EE applications, offering exactly this! Join this session to learn more about these innovations and how you could utilise OSS technologies to deliver highly scalable and performant applications that are optimized for today’s cloud-native environments.
This session will give attendees an insight into the CRIU and InstantOn technologies and how these can be used to enable serverless speeds with Java applications without needing to compromise on performance. As well as introductory slides we aim to show a live demo and showcase how this technology can be used by the attendees through the use of OSS cloud-native Java technologies and tools.
