Size-up – fight the fire or evacuate. Personal safety is number 1.
Exit plan – know your exit, don’t put the fire between you and the exit.
P A S S
P- Pull the pin
A – Aim the nozzle at the base of the fire
S – Squeeze the trigger
S – Sweep the nozzle left and right till the fire is out or run out of an extinguishing agent.
Evacuate the area and Call 911.

Crew members from the USS Arlington were welcomed at Arlington’s Fire Station 5 before running in the The Arlington Police, Fire & Sheriff 9/11 Memorial Race. The USS Arlington honors the 184 victims and the thousands of emergency, fire and rescue personnel of Arlington County and localities in the National Capital Region who provided critical emergency assistance after the attack on 9/11.

On June 7 2019 a ceremony was held at Yorktown High School to bring awareness of Arlington County'‘s Hands2Hearts program developed with the Virginia Hospital Center and Arlington County Fire Department.

Dr. Reed Smith of the Arlington County Fire Department was the recipient of the 2018 Governor's EMS Award for Physician with Outstanding Contributions to EMS for his groundbreaking work in tactical emergency casualty care. Specifically, he was recognized for Until Help Arrives, a program that teaches citizens how to react and respond during an emergency.
