Hear about the legalities of modular and manufactured homes. We are pursuing certification for parts of the Seed Eco-Home product ecosystem so that we can address build time, inspection schedule, and flexible build options in all types of scenarios from DIY to heavily regulated.

The 5 day build with 24 people on site is becoming more real every day.

Wait till we start the 3D printed panels, solar concrete, and home hydrogen fueling stations, just to name a few. Such discussion exposes the inefficiencies of a system built on a historical legacy - which is not the same as the art of possibility.

This year is a big one for OSE as we are nearing traction on a revenue model that can deliver on the promise of creating the open source economy. Release of the Seed Eco-Home - in the form of a 24-person swarm build of a 1000 square foot, code-compliant home in 5 days - would be big news for the world. Average homes in the USA take 36x longer to build. The promise of radical efficiency of open source design and collaboration is at stake here. Once successful, there will be a potential cascade of evolution in the business world, as people recognize that open, collaborative, distributive enterprise is possible for economic traction. Nobody believes this today, or at least nobody is doing it. To get there, we document the Seed Eco-Home, and prove the business model with 4 builds for real customers in October and November 2022. NoVo Foundation - https://novofoundation.org/ - with the effort of Martin Kirk - is supporting the Kingston, NY, Fabrication Center - for hands-on builds and digital fabrication - beyond the Fab Lab. The Fabrication Center will be in operation by next year. Dan Freedman is consulting on building out the Fabrication Center.

We covered high temperature 3D printing, open source equipment, hydrogen energy - and distributing the enterprise ecosystem of open source manufacturing. It's getting close to this breakthrough, but there is a little work ahead. Here you hear some insights on the challenges and OSE's approach..

Open Source Ecology (https://www.ted.com/talks/marcin_jakubowski) and Open Building Institute (http://openbuildinginstitute.org) present the world's first complete open source hydronic stove and control panel design. Bill of Materials cost for this control panel is $595, and materials cost for the stove itself was about $600. Stove is 200,000 BTU with 16 square feet of heat exchanger area. The lowest cost off-the-shelf versions that we found were $2k for the control panel; and $5k for a hydronic stove rated for 100,000 BTU.
