Arlington WoW Presents Gender Equity in the Workplace.
A conversation with Kimberly Churches, CEO, American Association of University Women (AAUW). Ms. Churches shared what policymakers at the national and local levels are doing to close the pay and leadership gaps for women.

The 20th Annual James B. Hunter Human Rights Awards were held in Arlington County VA on Dec. 13 2018. The awards are sponsored by the Arlington County Human Rights Commission. The James B. Hunter Award goes to individuals, community groups, non-profit organizations and business establishments that promote cultural diversity and equal rights for all residents.

The award is named for former Arlington County Board member James B. Hunter, who dedicated many years to helping underserved groups access government services designed to protect their rights.

Arlington County's Commission on the Status of Women has presented the Women of Vision Awards for 32 years to individuals who demonstrate a strong commitment to women's issues and have, over time, developed and communicated their vision for women and engaged community members and other leaders in order to realize this vision. This year's awardee in the category of non-profit was artist, writer and educator Sushmita Mazumdar.

Sushmita Mazumdar is an Arlington-based artist, writer, educator, and founder of Studio Pause, a space where everyday people are invited to make time for creativity and celebrate community. For the past 10 years, her work has encouraged children, families, and seniors to share their stories of home, heritage, and migration through the fun and exciting book arts.

Paula Tarnapol Whitacre's "A Civil Life in an Uncivil Time: Julia Wilbur's Struggle for Purpose" tells the story of abolitionist Julia Wilbur and her time in Civil War-era Alexandria VA helping escaped slaves and hospitalized Union soldiers. Recorded at the Arlington Central Library.

ATV's monthly chat, discussing important actions taken at this month's Board Meeting. This month we sit down with the brand new Chair, Jay Fisette, and Vice-Chair, Katie Cristol. They discuss the Board's priorities for 2017, Arlington's response to the new administration in Washington, and the new Joint Facilities Advisory Commission, which has just started working. They also touch on acts the Board took to preserve affordable housing in Westover, and to clarify short term rentals regulations. They discuss legislation going through the State government regarding towing, and Project Peace, a co-ordinated community collaboration dedicated to preventing domestic and sexual violence in Arlington.

Other topics include the FY2018 Budget, an affordable housing loan for Culpepper Gardens, street and transit work on Columbia Pike, the new Financial Fraud, Waste, and Abuse Hotline for the public, and a new change on the schedule for the 2017 Organizational Meeting.
