April 25, 2014 - City Councilman Curtis Jones Jr., state Sen. Vincent Hughes, U.S. Rep. Bob Brady, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and other officials celebrated the restoration of the West Branch of Indian Creek as part of the Cobbs Creek Habitat Restoration project. The restoration work, consisting of 750 feet of newly constructed and 1,300 feet of reconfigured stream channel, will allow the West Bank of Indian Creek to flow naturally for the first time since 1928.

Clarke (5th District) on Monday announced the launch of the 1,500 New Affordable Housing Units Initiative, which addressed the related crises of severe affordable housing shortages and growing income inequality and socioeconomic segregation across Philadelphia.

March 6, 2014 - City Council President Darrell Clarke, municipal labor unions and members of City Council held a press conference immediately following Mayor Nutter's FY2015 budget address to discuss outstanding contract disputes, the proposed privatization of Philadelphia Gas Works and budget priorities. Councilman At-Large Dennis O'Brien also discussed concerns about funding for the School District of Philadelphia.

March 4, 2014 - The Philadelphia City Council Committee on Commerce and Economic Development held a hearing to examine the minority participation goals and strategies for workforce inclusion by applicants pursuing a casino license in Philadelphia. Councilman Curtis Jones, Jr., called for the hearing and explains why the economic participation of minorities and women in major development projects is good for Philadelphia's overall economic growth.

Feb. 27, 2014 - City Councilman At-Large David Oh, the only veterans on City Council, presented a resolution declaring 2014 The Year of the Veteran in Philadelphia. He was joined by Councilwoman Jannie Blackwell (3rd District), Councilman Mark Squilla (1st District), and Council's Veterans Advisory Commission Director Scott Brown. One of the objectives of 2014 will be ending veteran homelessness in Philadelphia.

Feb. 20, 2014 - Philadelphia City Council members María Quiñones Sánchez, Jannie Blackwell and Jim Kenney along with community organizations called for an end to compliance with non-mandatory ICE holds from federal deportation agents to local law enforcement. Feb. 4, 2014 - Councilwoman At-Large Blondell Reynolds Brown discusses her "Philly First" Local Bidding Preference Bill, which passed unanimously out of the Council Committee on Commerce and Economic Development. The bill changes how the City awards contracts of $1 million or less by increasing the bidding preference for Philadelphi-owned businesses from 5 to 10 percent. The bill was co-sponsored by Councilman At-Large W. Wilson Goode, Jr.
